Former New Life Church pastor Haggard starting prayer group in home

Ted Haggard, who was exiled from the ministry after a homosexual relationship with a Denver prostitute was revealed in fall 2006, is starting a prayer group in his Colorado Springs home Nov. 12.
Haggard also started what would become New Life Church in his home. Over 22 years, he and his wife, Gayle, grew the church from 20 people meeting in his basement to 14,000 people meeting on a $50 million campus.
Until recently Haggard had said he had no plans to start a new church; then friends involved in prayer meetings persuaded him to form a group.
“It’s an exploratory meeting,” Haggard said Wednesday. “We need a core team to relate to as a spiritual family. We expect just a handful of people, but anybody’s welcome. We’ll see where it goes.”
