AURORA | The founders of the Gravity Defied Theatre company are committed to pushing the creative envelope.
The company’s upcoming production of “The Wild Party” at the Aurora Fox won’t shy away from any of the bawdy themes or adult narratives in Andrew Lippa’s musical. The sordid story of a celebration thrown by two Vaudeville performers in 1928 includes drunken brawls and alcohol-induced hallucinations; its cast of characters features prostitutes, madames and a host of Bohemian theater performers.
“The content of the show is pretty risqué in itself. There aren’t too many shows that have sex, violence, alcohol abuse all in one. All of those factors went into picking this production,” said Gravity Defied founder Keith Rabin Jr. “I definitely always have a goal of keeping shows fresh. Unless it’s some extenuating circumstances, I will never do a show that another theater company has done in the past two years.”
