Clayton also has another specialty, too, her cooking. She served meatballs, ravioli and pizzelles at the Capitol Thursday in a meal that was dubbed “the last supper.” That’s because Clayton, who serves her Italian feast every year during the session, is retiring after 18 years of working under the gold dome.
“I don’t want to get up at 6 in the morning in the coldest part of the year and walk to the bus,” she said. “But I’ll probably still volunteer at the Capitol.”
Clayton’s been a fixture in north Denver for more than 40 years. She still lives in the house on Stuart Street that she and her late husband. Jim Clayton, bought for $14,000 in 1969. She belongs to several Italian clubs, and regularly attends Democratic events.

“I’m a call girl,” Clayton deadpanned when asked why she’s so busy.
