COLORADO SPRINGS – Three-and-a-half years ago, Ted Haggard thought his life was over. The former pastor of the New Life Mega Church in Colorado Springs was wrapped up in a gay sex scandal involving a male prostitute.
Fast-forward to today, and Haggard is trying to rebuild the credibility he once had.
It started a few months ago, when Haggard started holding prayer meetings at his home. As the weeks went on, more people started attending – so Haggard decided to move his services to his barn out back.
“Way beyond expectations,” Haggard said.
Haggard’s backyard church, St. James, has grown so much over the past couple of weeks that he can no longer accommodate all of the people who want to attend his meetings there either.

“We have bank robbers that come to church here, we have adulterers, thieves, prostitutes, drug addicts. They’re all people just like me,” Haggard said.
