Aurora offers theater to the Southside

As the door closes, I sink into the cozy darkness of the room. The air is ripe with anticipation as the band begins to play. One by one they enter wearing little to nothing – bustiers, fishnet stockings, and lace-trimmed lingerie.
Sitting brazenly spread eagle on their bar chairs they answer the music with splits, hip thrusts or a flash of the leg. This isn’t some seedy strip club on the sketchy part of town…it is a community theater performance of “Cabaret” and it’s happening right here in Corpus Christi.
“What excites me is when I look at the audience and I see people laughing and crying and smiling; it’s just wonderful to see how the actors bring out the emotions in everybody. And it’s just a play!” said Ed Chapa, president and executive director of the Aurora Arts Theatre
