DENVER, Feb. 1 (UPI) — Five men have been charged with heading a criminal organization in Colorado that trafficked in underage prostitutes.

A 70-count indictment handed up Monday named Patrick Lloyd McGowan, 22; Chad Armand Gow, 20; Roy Manuel Ibarra-Gonzales, 20; and Bryan Steven Burns, 20, as the ringleaders. Nine other people were charged, including men who allegedly drove teenagers to other cities for business calls, men who patronized teenage prostitutes and a woman who allegedly tried to cover the group’s tracks.

The organization allegedly acted in many ways like a traditional street gang and shows a trend of gangs finding that providing prostitutes generates a better income stream than dealing in drugs or guns, which must be replaced after they are sold.

Colorado enacted an anti-human-trafficking law in 2006, but the first successful prosecution wasn’t completed until last summer, when a 19-year-old was sentenced to eight years in prison for hiring out a 17-year-old girl as a prostitute.
The new law, which may be used against anyone accused of selling, trading or leasing another person, made trafficking a more serious felony than pimping or inducement of child prostitution.

According to the indictment, starting in January 2011, the men began persuading girls under age 18 to prostitute themselves. The men lined up customers, coerced the women into having sex with them and kept the money the women made. The men also gave the women alcohol and drugs, and threatened them with violence, the indictment states. The indictment lists five women by initials only and does not state their ages.

DENVER (KUSA/CNN) – Fourteen people in Colorado have been indicted in a human trafficking ring that prosecutors say victimized children across the state.
According to Attorney General John Suthers, 22-year-old Patrick Lloyd, Chad Armand Gow, 20, Roy Manuel Ibarra-Gonzales, 20, and Bryan Steven Burns, 20, oversaw the ring that involved not only the prostitution of children, but also sold methamphetamine and cocaine.
Suthers said the suspects would find the teens on Backpage.com.
“These people that are very brazen, this is easy money for them,” Suthers said.
Ten of the people named in the indictment are patrons or accused of helping the ringleaders by escorting prostitutes to different hotels around Colorado.
The indictment said the ring worked in Denver, Lakewood, Boulder, Glenwood Springs, and Grand Junction for sex. Suthers says at least five teenage girls were victims in the case.

BOULDER — A woman was arrested after assaulting the manager of a Boulder strip club early Saturday morning, police said.
Boulder police arrested 23-year-old Stephanie Jenny outside The Bustop, a strip club at 4871 Broadway.
According to the police report, police were called to the gentleman’s club after Jenny got into a fight with the manager.
The manager told officers that Jenny refused to pay for a one-drink minimum at the strip club. The manager added that Jenny appeared to be extremely intoxicated, and he refused to let her in.

After officers arrived, police said Jenny resisted arrest and refused to be put into the squad car. Police said during the ride to the police station, Jenny repeatedly kicked the plastic partition in the police car and said she was “sorry that she was drunk and hit some strippers.”
